Paper Leaf Tree using CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge
Published: Thursday, February 9, 2012
Do want to add a splash of color to a cozy corner in your home? How about create your own paper leaf tree. You could make it smaller and have a bouquet for a shelf or table or go big like I did and create a leaf tree. =)
To create this leaf tree you'll need a large branch. You could head out to your backyard and get one or if you're like me with just palm trees you can head over to a local craft store and buy a branch. I picked this one up at Michael's Craft store... it's bendy and I could shape it how I wanted. While you're there get some green wire so you can attach the leaves to the tree. The kind I bought had a felt feel to it and I thought it blended well with the branch color. Any wire will do though.
Once you have your branch and wire you'll then need to decide what colors you'd like to go with for your tree. I went with bright and summery colors by using various Close To My Heart patterned paper and cardstock. I used my handy dandy go-to Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge and cut lots and lots of leaves in various sizes. Just play around with the sizes to see what will work best for your size branch. Be sure to cut them in 2's. So if you're are using the "Autofill" feature on your cricut make sure to end up with an even amount since you'll need a front and back to your leaf.
To add some some character and make them more leaf like I used a Fiskars Paper Crimper and crimped ALL the leaves. This is optional but I loved the look of it (close up pic to the right). Now that you have bunches of leaves you'll want to cut up your wire into approx 4"-6" strips. I used some CTMH Liquid Glass and placed a line of adhesive down the center and two dots of glue on the sides of 1 leaf, then place down your wire and add another leaf on top like a sandwich. Now just set them aside to dry and keep going until all your leaves have wire.
It is time consuming to get all the leaves ready but the next step is fun!!! Now you get to be creative and wrap the wires around the branches and create a beautiful tree. =) Simply place the leaf where you'd like it to go and then twist the wire neatly down the branch. I spaced them out as I was going along and would add more leaves as needed.
Finding the perfect tall vase was a challenge but after going to about 4 stores I finally stumbled upon this one at JoAnn's craft store and it worked out perfect.
Hope you like my paper leaf tree!!! =) If you'd like to check out other projects I've created using the MUST HAVE Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge, Click here!
